Patient Stories

Mr. Ishttaq (Moradabad)

When Ishttaq has come to CLGEI he was on the edge of complete blindness with not a single paisa in his pockets. His complete family depends on his earning which was not more than Rs. 2000-/ per month. He use to work as a helper in carrying logs of wood and now as his vision was almost lost he was unable to perform.

He has lost his one eye long back; there was a retina detachment in the second one. CLGEI team informed him that he could be operated for retina and his functional vision could be restored, his joy was palpable with his heart full of hope to be able to see again and live a much more dignified life, he resolved to undertake the operation. But when he heard the cost of the procedure, he pleaded that he is very poor and could not afford it.

It was a very difficult situation for the management of CLGEI, to provide for, and that too such a high cost for a medical intervention, which was not essentially under their purview, but CLGEI could not look the other way. On humanitarian grounds, CLGEI decided to go ahead, without bothering about the cost of the intervention at that time.
