Vitreo-Retina

The examination and treatment of vitreo-retinal diseases has attracted the attention of a host of scientists and physicians. Beginning with only the direct ophthalmoscope a few decades ago, today one has several devices to precisely examine the vitreous and retina. Several treatment modalities using lasers and surgery are now available to treat a variety of conditions. With new refinements in instruments, devices and surgical procedures taking place each year, there is a need to keep oneself constantly informed of the latest research in the theory and practice of retinal diseases.

Objective of the fellowship training program is to impart skills in the management of medical and surgical diseases of the vitreous and retina. At the same time, the program is designed to develop publication shius of the fellows.

The following are the areas and techniques where the training is imparted

Clinical: Indirect Ophthalmoscopy, Fundus Biomicroscopy (90D/78D).

Diagnostics: Fundus Photography, Fluorescein Angiography, Ultrasonography, OCT

Laser: Use of slit lamp and Indirect Ophthalmoscope delivery modes for laser treatment of retinal disorders.

Surgical training as an assistant

All types of retinal derachment surgeries

  • SFIOL
  • Vascular retinopathies
  • Ocular trauma
  • Macular disorders
  • Paediatric retinal diseases
  • Endophthalmitis

Independent surgical training

Would be imparted in last 6 months of fellowship.

Intake

Batch starts in January every year (No seats avilable one every two years)

Prerequisites

MS/MD/DNB in Ophthalmology

Stipends

All the long term fellows will be paid a stipend of INR 40,000/- per month
